New reports indicate a 1,300 percent increase in stolen Korean cars in the United States. It is said that social networks played a very important role in the occurrence of these robberies.
In recent months, many videos about the method of stealing Korean cars that do not have immobilizer technology have been published on Tik Tok and YouTube, and thieves use these videos to easily steal Kia and Hyundai cars.
Increase in the theft of Hyundai and Kia cars in America
According to the available statistics about the amount of vehicle theft in America, it is possible to see an increase in the theft of Hyundai and Kia cars in some areas of this country. In this way, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, about 45% of the cars stolen last month belong to the two mentioned companies. Also, the theft of Kia cars increased by 254% and Hyundai by 222% in the state of St. Denis. In addition, car thefts of these two companies are increasing in Cincinnati, Memphis and Columbus.
As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, only cars that do not have an immobilizer are stolen by thieves, and other cars have high safety. For this reason, one of the officials of the city of Milwaukee sent a letter to the Kia car company.
This American official expressed his request as follows: We request Kia Motors of America to make fundamental changes in relation to the security mechanisms of its cars. We need to do something not only to protect your property and product owners, but also to reduce the pressure on the police and alerting others to issues with lock systems.
In connection with the increase in theft statistics of Hyundai and Kia cars, these two companies announced that the products produced in 2022 will have immobilizers. It should be noted that according to Grand Rapids police, most of the thieves of Kia and Hyundai cars are under the legal age and fall into the age group of teenagers and young adults.
