This study shows that Apple has reached its highest share of premiums in the premium segment since the first quarter of 2017. In addition, despite an 8% drop in global smartphone sales, the market still outperformed the overall smartphone market during the first quarter.
According to published statistics, Apple is still in the lead. This time, Counterpoint Research shows that this 60% share has been provided to Apple thanks to the iPhone 13 series, which has been the best-selling model in the world every month since October 2021.
The highest sales volume in the premium segment was attributed to Apple and Samsung. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro together accounted for more than two-thirds of the sales volume in the stunning segment. Of course, this sale has been successful due to its wide distribution in the United States, China and Western Europe.
In China, smartphone sales grew 176 percent in the first quarter of 2022, accounting for more than a fifth of China’s smartphone market value during the quarter alone. Apple has emerged as the biggest winner after Huawei’s decline in the premium market. Of course, it is worth noting that the premium market in China still has potential.
The second most successful brand in this research belongs to Samsung. Samsung, meanwhile, took second place in the premium segment, with its share reduced by 2021 compared to the release of the Galaxy S22 series in 2021 due to delays.
As you can see in the charts above, Apple jumped from 57% in the first quarter of 2021 to 62% in the first quarter of 2022, overshadowing sales of the iPhone 13. Samsung, on the other hand, rose from 18 percent last year to 16 percent in 2022, and in just one year we saw a huge drop in sales from 9 percent to 3 percent.
For the first time since the introduction of the iPhone X, the current generation of Apple smartphones, the iPhone 13 series, has undergone changes. In this series, in addition to improving battery performance, camera upgrades can also be seen. In this series, Apple has also introduced a new color for both the regular and Peru models with the aim of increasing sales. The company is expected to introduce the iPhone 14 in three months.
