Is the $ 9.7 million fine for misleading Galaxy ads enough?
According to a report on the SamMobile website, US Federal Judge Michael Murphy announced an agreement between Samsung and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). It seems that this case, which has been under investigation by the judicial authorities for a long time, will finally come to an end.
The ACCC has previously claimed that Samsung has been misleading customers with misleading claims about its handsets in more than 300 announcements since February 2016. On the other hand, Samsung lawyer; On the sidelines of the recent trial, Nicholas Di Yang confirmed that to date, the total number of announcements that have been affected by this issue and the users who have purchased according to these ads has reached 684.
These announcements include online advertisements, TV commercials and billboards published by the company. These ads have shown that these phones are water resistant and users can use these phones in swimming pools and beaches without worries. But at the moment it seems that despite these advertisements, the handsets are not resistant to pool water or salt water and are not waterproof at all.
In addition to these problems, it is said that during these situations, when users decide to charge their phone and there is still water in the port, an error and warning is displayed to them, which recommends that Avoid charging your phone. According to the court, Samsung tried to solve this problem in the next models of Galaxy with hardware and software changes and was able to solve it.
Samsung has decided to settle the case. The company admitted that the nine ads for the seven devices that were published between 2016 and 2018 were misleading. Of course, it is interesting to know that during this period, Samsung was able to sell 3 million Galaxy models in Australia alone.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, standard and plus version S8, Note 8, A7 and A5 are among the devices that are affected by this problem. A Samsung spokesman also said he had extensively tested the devices with seawater and pool before sale, but accepted the case and would pay a $ 9.7 million fine for misleading Galaxy ads.
