According to the head of Xbox studios, the work situation of Starfield game studio is improving and apparently it is no longer involved in Crunch.

Crunch is one of the biggest problems of the game industry in the development sector, and several developers have always been criticized for the practices and organizational standards that have prevailed in this field. When a studio is involved in a crunch, it means that its employees are working more than usual, which causes many problems.

Starfield game is developing smoothly

There’s almost no studio that doesn’t have Crunch experience, but right now Bethesda, the developer of games like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and the upcoming and highly anticipated Starfield, is getting the most attention. Of course, it should be considered that Bethesda was bought by Microsoft and became a first-party Xbox company last year, and according to its new bosses, there is no longer a problem with Crunch.

The work situation of Starfield game studio is improving

In a Q&A via Kotaku, Xbox Studios president Matt Botti discussed Bethesda’s well-documented problems in the past (including with Fallout 76). Bethesda company is no longer involved in extreme crunches.

He went on to say that “if you go back 10 years, it’s a bit unfair to attribute it to just one studio. Crunch was just part of the industry. I’m not saying this to justify it, I’m just saying it was part of the culture of the industry. “I even literally slept under my desk at night in the early days of my career, and we looked at it as a badge of honor.” Also, after talking to the head of Bethesda, he said that the studio is currently in good condition and there is nothing to worry about.

Of course, you can never know for sure what is going on behind the scenes, and when a studio says that the working conditions of their employees are fine, how much should you trust it. But due to the fact that special attention has been paid to this issue in recent years, there is certainly more pressure on the managers of the game producing studios to do better in this field.

However, the recently delayed Starfield game is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2023 for Xbox Series X and S&PC.
